Handmade, Hand Stitched
Process
Each Rag of Colts bag is entirely handmade, from the first cut to the final burnish. No sewing machines are used. First I strip down the saddles, selecting suitable pieces of leather.
The pattern for the bag is cut and then pieces are then placed in the ‘Clam’ to be sewn together using the ancient and extremely resilient Saddle Stitch.
Saddle Stitch uses two needles and an awl. The awl cuts the stitch hole in the leather which is then stitched through twice, once in each direction, meaning that every stitch is held by a double thickness of French linen cord.
You are welcome to visit my Studio by appointment. I also offer workshops, please get in touch for details.
